Grades are awarded according to the percentage earned in a particular course and are recorded by letters.

GPA.
A student's grade point average (GPA) shows the average performance. There are two types of GPAs: semester and graduation indexes.
Semester Index .
An average for a given semester, is calculated by dividing the total number of index points by the total
number of credit hours attempted. (Index points are determined by multiplying the value of a grade by the number of credit hours
of each class.)
Example Semester Index Calculation:
- Grade Value x Semester Hours = Index Points
- Add all the Index Points together = Total Index Points
- Total Index Points/Total Credit Hours Attempted = Semester Index
Graduation Index
The graduation index is a cumulative weighted average of all grades received while enrolled in the present curriculum at
the College. Courses can only be retaken to improve grades when a student received a D or F in a course. If a student
repeats a course to achieve a better grade, both grades will be counted in the calculation of the GPA.
The following designations also may appear on grade cards:
Satisfactory An "S" is earned when the equivalent of a C- or higher is earned in a Pass/Fail
Unsatisfactory A "U" is assigned when a passing grade is not achieved. In the case of Pass/Fail courses,
this grade is assigned when anything less than a C- is earned. A "U" has an associated point value of 0 and is
always calculated as part of the GPA. All courses that are failed and required for graduation must be repeated.
Withdraw Passing Students who have achieved a passing grade in a course after six weeks and drop it
receive a designation of "WP." A "WP" has no associated point value and is not calculated as part of the GPA.
Withdraw Failing Students who are failing a course and drop it after six weeks receive the designation
of "WF." A "WF" has no associated point value and is not calculated as part of the GPA.
Incomplete In exceptional situations when a course is not completed because of unavoidable circumstances,
a grade of "I" is assigned. An "I" has no associated point value and is not calculated as part of the GPA.
All incomplete grades must be rectified by the time specified by the instructor; this must be no later than six
weeks from the time it is incurred except with the express written permission of the Dean. If this does not occur,
then the grade is calculated without the missing work.
Prospective graduates must make-up all outstanding incomplete grades at least six weeks prior to graduation.
Audit The designation of "AU" is given when a course is audited rather than taken for credit. Auditors can
change their registration to taking a course for credit until the end of the third week of the course. Students
who do not regularly attend a registered course for audit receive a "WP" on their transcript instead of "AU."
