English as a Second Language

Applicants for whom English is a second language must achieve a score of at least 500 (paper-based) or 173 (computer-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (toefl) or provide substantial evidence of English proficiency. All exceptions to toefl testing must be specifically approved.

International Students

The college intends to seek authorization under federal law to enroll non immigrant alien students. If the college is approved to enroll non immigrant students, international applicants who are accepted must qualify for the appropriate U.S. visa program and meet all federal requirements in order to attend. Enrollment of international students cannot be assured at this time. However, in anticipation of the potential for international student enrollment, you may want to obtain or maintain a passport that does not expire before June 2012.

International applicants will be expected to follow the same admission procedures as other applicants and must provide evidence of scholastic ability, have an adequate command of the English language and the means to finance college expenses.

International student applicants should note that the federal government regulates the types and periods of student employment. The regulations generally do not allow spouses or dependents of international students to be employed while in the United States.

Re-admission

Students who have failed to register, have been dropped or have withdrawn from classes need to fill out an application for re-admission at the Admissions Office. Students may be re-admitted to fall, spring or summer semesters (see When, Where, How).

Special Students

Individuals who are not seeking diplomas are welcome to take classes offered at AC. Ordinarily , a non-diploma seeking student will register for one to six credit hours; students desiring to take additional course work must seek approval through the Office of the Registrar. There is no additional application process for special students other than registering for classes. If an applicant is not allowed to take a class for any reason, he will be notified by the Registrar. Payment deadlines will be given prior to registration.

Transfer of Credits

The Office of the Registrar will determine if high school Advanced Placement courses and/or courses completed at degree granting institutions of higher learning are transferable. Also credit may be awarded for acceptable scores on the College Level Examination Program (clep), Dantes subject standardized test (dantes) or excelsior college examinations (ece). All transferred credits must meet the curriculum requirements of the College. The Office of the Registrar determines which, if any, credits from foreign institutions are transferable on an individual basis.

Credit is usually not accepted from business schools, nursing schools, trade schools or other similar institutions. Transfer credits do not apply toward the cumulative grade point average achieved at AC.

Credits for theology courses typically are not transferable, but will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

It is possible for students who have numerous transfer credits from other institutions to complete the four year curriculum in three years. Students should transfer all credits prior to the conclusion of the first year of enrollment at AC to ensure that the proper academic course is followed.

All students that wish to transfer credits will need to meet with the Registrar to discuss possible options and to ensure that the residence requirements are met.

Transfer of credits from Herbert W. Armstrong College to other institutions is at the discretion of the receiving institution.
